The Body Struggles
09:57
|
|||
The body struggles in the morning
(It creaks and groans - its deathly moans)
I put my pants on in the hallway
And leave you sleeping off last night’s demons
Over the Cape the sun it rises
(The skies they warn, there might be storms)
I leave a note beside the kettle
I know the third thing you’ll do when you wake up
At night I sit and wonder if there’s still wonder in this world
You break to distant thunder and strip naked and go dance outside and hope for rain
I go to work but I’m barely breathing
(Tonight I think, we could sure use a drink)
The body struggles in the morning
But in the evening we dance like damned children
At night I sit and wonder if there’s still wonder in this world
I hear a clap of thunder and strip naked and go dance outside and hope for rain
And pray the rains, will wash away
All the misspent dreams of another day
While the mud between our toes
Will remind me of the life we chose
And your holy, healing hands, I’ll hold in mine
As we go in search of long, lost time
At least your heart, still has a light
Which will guide me through the darkest hour of the darkest night

Rabbit's Foot
04:48

When’s my luck gonna run on out x2
I ain’t got no rabbits foot no horses shoe
Gotta give it everything I’ve got x 2
Gonna wring it out and hang it up
Doesn’t really matter anyway x2
We all roll the dice
We’re gonna make the play
Let’s all just have a drink and sing cos it ain’t that bad
Don’t wanna be a broken record x 2
Better dust it off and turn it up
Really wanna keep it spinning round x 2
I like the way you show your age
There’s probably a better way x 2
But if it’s easier
Wouldn’t wanna be ya!
Let’s all just have a drink and sing cos it ain’t that bad

Well, the Drunk and the Silhouette
Do pirouettes round the lounge room
And sing sad songs at the top of their lungs
And let tall tales drip from the tip of their tongues
And the Ghost of Memory
Like uninvited family
Comes round to visit late at night
To sprinkle his bullshit and start up a fight
But the Drunk and the Silhouette
Only get caught up in thoughts of all that was good
And they fall into each other’s arms
And weep like any other grown man would
It’s the older you get and the closer to Death
Well, it brings out the best and the worst
Least the more you forget
The less you regret and the less that it hurts
Till you wake up in the morning feeling twice as worse
Well, the Drunk and the Silhouette
Quit cigarettes and light up cigars
And reflect on loves from the past
But it ends with cramps in a lukewarm bath
And the Ghost of Here-and-Now
Arrives late and takes a bow
And he speaks of dreams that are fading from view
But he’s got more wine, so they pull up a pew
Well, the Drunk and the Silhouette
Only get caught up in thoughts of all that is good
And they fall into each other’s arms
And weep like any other grown man should
It’s the older you get and the closer to Death
Well, it brings out the best and the worst
Least the more you forget
The less you regret and the less that it hurts
When I was a child, I was as wild as the wind and as free
When I was a child, I was as wild as the wind and as free
When I was a child, I was as wild as the wind and as free
When I was a child, I was as wild as the wind and as free

Think of the Children
04:28
|
|||
It’s an itty-bitty ray of sunshine
But it brightens up the day
Well, maybe things will get better
Or maybe nothing will change
Oh, how about this weather?
It looks like rain’s on its way
Aw, yesterday’s dirty dishes
Still lay piled beside the sink
Is there much on the telly?
Well, I need something so I won’t think
This boy craves affection
But Holy Moses!
Heartache holds him at bay
The Ghost of Memory like falling embers
Alights then dies and leads my heart astray
It’s an itty-bitty ray of sunshine
But it brightens up the whole day
Well, maybe things will get better
Or maybe fuck-all will change
Oh, think of the children:
In golden slumbers they lay

A Thousand Sighs
04:19
|
|||
A black mirror and a bottle of gin
Empty on the bedroom floor
There’s still music bleeding into the room
And an endless banging at the door
Are you in love with the common features?
Just between you and I
These are things that nobody teaches:
How to hold onto the truth in a lie
By the starlight and moonbeams,
As fingers trace the hems of sweet dreams,
Are you dying to live but feeling more dead than alive?
St Anthony is lost in the woods
He has no wi-fi or reception
A figure lurking in the shadows draws near
With an offer of a shot at redemption
Are you in love with the modern features –
Dancing on the edge of a knife?
These are heights that nobody reaches:
How do you hold onto the good things in life?
By the starlight and moonbeams,
As fingers trace the hems of sweet dreams,
Are you dying to live but feeling more dead than alive?
A thousand kisses for a thousand lies
A thousand more ways that the heart slowly dies
A breathless morning neath the sweaty sheets
Listen to the thump, thumping of heartbeats
A thousand kisses for a thousand lies
A thousand more ways that the heart slowly dies
A breathless morning neath the sweaty sheets
Oh, listen to the thump, thumping of heartbeats
And a thousand sighs
A thousand sighs
Yeah, a thousand sighs
A thousand sighs
